This is the only species in this
genus. Bloodroot is a member of the Poppy family and has a flower
showy enough to attract pollinators even though the flower produces
no nectar. One of our region's first spring wildflowers, the
foliage is distinctive and lasts long after the flower is gone.
The bright red rootstock
led to the common name.
