Bristly Locust - Robina hispida

 Bristly Locust - Robina hispida
This member of the Pea family, Fabaceae, has the most attractive flower of any of the locusts. Growing as a small shrub, the trunk and branches are covered with small, bristly spines. While eye-catching, the flowers have almost no scent. These can be found in bloom in the May - June time frame.
