Pollination! This simple scene
captures the entire reason any plant bothers to produce a flower,
attractive leaf, or scent. Not one other red buckeye tree has
looked at this one and thought, "my, you are good looking!!"
The only reason for expending the energy required to produce
a blossom or scent is to attract a pollinator, in this case a
bee.
