Bull Thistle - Cirsium

This introduced member
of the Aster family blooms from late summer well into autumn.
Considered by many to be a weed, I think they are exquisite!
Not only are they gorgeous, but their bloom time coincides with
the mating season of the American Goldfinch who use this genus
for both food and nesting material.
