Cataloochee Valley in
the Great Smoky Mountain National Park
One of my favorite places, crowds non-withstanding, the valley
was one of the first areas settled in the region. Old houses,
churches and barns are open to the public and can give you a
real sense of what living here must have been like. In addition,
there is a bit of old growth forest left along the Boogerman
trail which is also a wonderful walk for spring wildflowers,
not to mention that this is the site of the successful elk reintroduction
to the park.
