Members of the Pink family with opposite, entire leaves. Three species of chickweed are commonly found in our area: Star chickweed, Stellaria pubera; Common chickweed/Starwort, S. media; and Mouse-eared Chickweed, Cerastium vulgatum. Star Chickweed is the showiest and the only one of the three native to the region. The family name is derived from the cleft petals. What appear to be 10 petals are actually 5 deeply cleft petals |
