This member of the Buttercup
family is the only Columbine native to the eastern United States,
and the only one in North America not colored blue. The long
spurs and its color attract Ruby Throated Hummingbirds which
are one of the primary pollinators of this species. Early colonists
found this to be so attractive that it was introduced into England
in the early 1600s.
