Red Maple - Acer rubrum
Red Maples are truly
spectacular when in their full autumn color. As the tree prepares
for winter the vascular system between the tree and the leaf
seals shut to prevent the tree from dehydrating during the colder
months. This traps the photosynthetic products, sugars and starches,
in the leaves and as they break down the beautiful red color
is produced.
