This member of the Aster family
normally has between 8 - 12 ray flowers. The dark purple buds open to reveal the
bright yellow flower for which the plant is named. Blooming early
in the Spring, this plant is commonly thought to trigger many
allergies. Its pollen however is so large that most people are
not bothered by it. In what I consider a completely foolish taxonomic
move the genus of the plant was changed to Packera which I simply
don't like as much as Senecio.
