Maidenhair Fern
- Adiantum peltatum
This member of the Pteridaceae
family features a distinctive black stipe, or main stem which
seems to branch into two sections each curving into a semi-circle.
Highly prized by many 19th century medical practitioners, it
has been used as an expectorant and to treat rheumatism. Cherokee
women made a rinse for their hair from it, believing it would
keep their hair glossy and clean.
