Michaux's Saxifrage -
Saxifraga michauxii
A beautiful member of the Saxifrage family , this is one of seventeen
species of saxifrage recognized in our area by Asa Gray. Collectively
known as "rock crushers" due to their habit of growing
in cracks and crevasses on rock faces. The flowers are less
than 3/8 of an inch in diameter. Named for botanist Andre Michaux,
these are found in moist to wet habitats and bloom from June
through August. Ken Maness took this photo which is much nicer
than any I've managed to take. Thanks Ken.
