Mountain Laurel - Kalmia latifolia

 Mountain Laurel - Kalmia latifolia

A relative of Sheep Laurel, this Rhododendron species shares the trait of having the stamen tucked into pockets in the petal - held there under tension. When an insect lands on the petal, the vibrations can loosen the stamen which then spring out and dust the insect with pollen.
