Oriental Bittersweet
- Celastrus orbiculatus
This is an introduced
species which is highly invasive and which outcompetes our native
variety, the Climbing Bittersweet. Its berries are undeniably
attractive and are a favorite food of many migrating songbirds
which spread the seeds and increase the presences of this species.
Many holiday wreaths contain the vine and when discarded, can
lead to new growth.
