Periwinkle - Vinca minor

Periwinkle - Vinca minor

This member of the Apocynaceae family is not native, but has escaped from cultivation and thrived. It blooms primarily in the March time frame, but if the weather is warm can be found blooming as early as January. Compounds taken from a Madagascaran Vinca have been used in treating childhood Leukemia and have played a major role in raising the survival rate to nearly 90 percent.
