Pignut Hickory - Carya glabra

 Pignut Hickory - Carya glabra
This member of the Walnut family has the compound leaf, typical of the family, with five leaflets as a rule. The nut is small with little edible content. The common name is derived from the early belief that only a pig would bother to eat them. The yellow color in autumn is also typical of many different species of hickory.
