Redbud - Cercis Canadensis
This member of the Pea
family blooms at just around Easter each year. Old timers here
in the mountains called it the Judas tree and claimed that Judas
Iscariot hung himself on a tree of the same genus. Prior to that,
all of the genus flowered in a pure white but since that time
the flowers have been blood red. The flowers are edible and are
a great addition to salads at this time of the year.
