Shooting Star - Dodecatheon meadia

 Shooting Star - Dodecatheon meadia

The common name for this member of the Primrose family is derived from the form the flower takes. The stamen join to form a point which is accented by the backturned petals. The chief pollinators are bees, which must force their proboscis between the stamen to gather nectar. In so doing they gather pollen and ensure the reproductive success of the plant.
