Sweet Breath of
Spring - Lonicera fragrantissima
This introduced Honeysuckle
grows as a small shrub which has a tiny flower. This is one of
the area's earliest blooming species, of which I am aware, blooming
as early as January. This species is not very striking as a whole
and, unless you get up close to check it out, often goes unnoticed.
The blossom however is lovely when viewed under magnification.
As the Latin name suggests, it has a wonderful fragrance.
