Three-toothed Cinquefoil
- Scientific name
This northern species is more commonly found in Canada than in
the United States. It is found in only a very few southern areas,
one of which is Roan Mountain. It is a glacial leftover, having
been moved south in front of the glaciers associated with the
Wisconsin Glaciation some 10, 000 years ago. The common name
is a reference to the fact that there are only three leaves and
that each of them has three "teeth"
in the tip.
