Virginia Opossum
- Didelphus virginiana
North America's only
marsupial, the Opossum lives an extremely short life of only
about two years on average. Parasites, predators, and highways
all take a toll on this commonly seen mammal. This one has been
out of the mother's pouch for approximately one month and is
only about six inches from snout to the base of its tail.
