Walking Fern -
Asplenium rhizophyllum
Technically a spleenwort,
this is a fairly rare fern. I've only ever seen them in three
locales including this one at Bat Cave. Cherokee Indians had
a great dread of dreaming about snakes and to avoid doing so
would drink a tea of this and Hepatica. Apparently it would make
them violently sick but prevented the dreams which would otherwise
bring about misfortune.
