Wood Frogs - Rana
sylvatica
These woodland frogs are rarely seen, except during their breeding
season which usually takes place in late February. The first
warm rains at that time of year is the signal for these guys
to leave the leaf litter where they've spent the winter and make
their way to ponds and lakes. Note the distended abdomen on the
larger, female frog on the bottom. As she lays her eggs the male
will, externally, fertilize them. For more information about
